Sandals Dunn’s River is new and really raises the bar; it’s one of our favorites and has some amazing unique suites and amenities. Sandals South Coast is secluded and peaceful, and offers the incredible overwater bungalows.

Two of the seven adults-only all-inclusive Sandals resorts in Jamaica, Sandals Dunn’s River and South Coast are located on opposite sides of the island—Dunn’s River is on the northern coast, and South Coast is on the (you guessed it). While both Sandals Dunn’s River and South Coast have beautiful settings that make the most of the surrounding nature, South Coast is more secluded.

Both resorts offer wonderful accommodations; Sandals South Coast has overwater bungalows and swim-up Rondovals, while Dunn’s River has the new Coyaba Sky Rondovals as well as Skypool Suites.

Sandals Dunn’s River is one of our favorites and is ranked in the top three Sandals resorts, at 4.7. Sandals South Coast is not far behind, at 4.5.

Sandals Dunn’s River vs. South Coast: Location

Sandals Dunn’s River is in Ocho Rios, about 90 minutes from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. The Ocho Rios airport is much closer, but doesn’t get as many international flights.

Sandals South Coast is in Whitehouse on Jamaica’s pristine southern coast, about 30 miles from the Montego Bay airport. If you get carsick, be aware that the drive goes along rough and winding roads.

You’ll get complimentary transfers to and from the airport at both resorts.

Sandals Dunn’s River vs. South Coast: Price

Although prices can vary depending on when you book, Sandals Dunn’s River is more expensive than South Coast. Dunn’s River currently starts at $304 per person per night, and South Coast starts at $239 per person per night.

Sandals Dunn’s River vs. South Coast: Amenities and Activities

Both Sandals Dunn’s River and South Coast are known for their pristine white-sand beaches, but the beach at South Coast is a bit better in our opinion. They each have calm water perfect for all the complimentary watersports you can get at Sandals, including snorkeling, scuba diving, paddleboarding, kayaking, Hobie Cat sailing, and more.

Sandals Dunn’s River also has motorized watersports like waterskiing, wakeboarding, and kneeboarding.

There are multiple pools and whirlpools at both. Sandals Dunn’s River has two river pools, but Sandals South Coast has the Caribbean’s longest river pool.

Each resort also has land sports including tennis and beach volleyball, as well as a fitness center. Sandals Dunn’s River also includes complimentary golf.

Both have nightly entertainment including live shows, theme nights, and more. There is more going on at Dunn’s River, although neither of these is a “party” resort.

There’s an onsite spa at both Dunn’s River and South Coast, which costs extra. The spa at Dunn’s River is one of the nicest at any Sandals resort and features its own pool.

Sandals Dunn’s River has 12 dining options, almost all of which are new options and unique to that location. We felt like the food there is by far the best of all the Sandals resorts. They also have a new coffee shop which we liked better than the coffee shop at other Sandals locations.

Sandals South Coast has 9 restaurants, many of which are beachfront or overlook the water.

There are 9 bars at Sandals Dunn’s River, including a great rum bar, an elegant lounge, a rooftop bar, and a swim-up bar. South Coast has 7 bars, including swim-up bars and an overwater bar.

Sandals Dunn’s River vs. South Coast: Accommodations

Accommodations at Dunn’s River include the new Coyaba Sky Rondovals, which have both swim-up access and private plunge pools as well as a rooftop terrace, and the Skypool Suites, which have an elevated infinity pool. There are also beachfront, swim-up, penthouse, oceanview, and garden view rooms and suites.

Sandals South Coast has the amazing overwater bungalows, as well as unique swim-up Rondoval butler villas with private plunge pools as well as beachfront swim-up suites, beachfront walk-out suites, oceanview rooms and suites, penthouse suites, and more.
